PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

BSc. Community Health Nursing

The current drive of the government for private sector involvement in health care delivery, it is important for private universities to train critical health professionals that will contribute to the needs of the Ghanaian populace. This is very important because the preventive care has a key role in public health and for general well-being of families in Ghana.

It is anticipated that KAAF University College will be a hub of training quality health professionals that will contribute immensely to the current deficit in human resource requirements.

The growing number of the Ghanaian population call for enhanced training of health professionals including community health nurses.

The Bachelor of Science in Community Health Nursing programme is intended to produce Community Health Nurses who will provide preventive, promotive and rehabilitative nursing care at all levels of the health care system to individuals, families and communities both locally and internationally.

At the end of the programme graduates should:

  1. Display a positive attitude in service provision towards individuals, families and communities;
  2. Contribute to community health nursing knowledge through research and continuous practice locally and internationally;
  3. Utilize research-based findings for the provision of evidence-based care centered on preventive, promotive and rehabilitative domains;
  4. Display leadership qualities and decision making abilities at work and in client engagement.
  5. Aptly apply skills and knowledge towards the provision of appropriate preventive, promotive and rehabilitative care; and
  6. Effectively demonstrate problem-solving abilities in the provision of care (preventive, promotive and rehabilitative) to individuals, families and communities.

Opportunities related to this program include:

  • Promotion to a higher grade especially in the Government Sector.

  • Educators in Public and Private Sectors.

  • Supervisors.
