Program Synopsis

The Mechanical Engineering programme provides broad-based education and training in mechanical engineering sciences and their applications that will enable graduates to meet the challenges of the engineering profession in a rapidly changing environment. These challenges require the ability to apply existing knowledge in new ways thereby creating new systems and opportunities as well as adapting existing technology to local production conditions. They acquire the ability to manage service, maintain and improve upon existing as well as new systems.


On successful completion of the programme, the graduate should be able to:

  • Design, manufacture and assemble mechanical components and systems;
  • Solve engineering problems by analytical and empirical methods, including computer applications
  • Install, commission, operate, maintain and service plant/machinery, tools and equipment
  • Prepare, read and present engineering drawings and reports
  • Apply relevant social science principles to manage engineering organizations and maintain cordial human relations.

Candidates applying to the programme must meet the following entry requirements:


Credit Passes (A1-C6) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects, including English Language and Mathematics plus three (3) relevant elective subjects:

  • Chemistry
  • Metal Work
  • Auto Mechanics
  • Applied Electricity
  • Technical Drawing
  • Engineering Science
  • Electronics

with a minimum of grade C6/D, aggregate 36 or 24 respectively.

HND Candidates

Applicant must have graduated with a certificate in Mechanical Engineering.

Bridging Course

All applicants who hold HND Certificates, CTC I, II/III and have a minimum of two years relevant working experience may apply. Such applicants shall be placed on level 300 after successfully going through one semester Bridging program.
